At Evercreech C of E Primary School, we believe that Career-Related Learning begins from the earliest years, encouraging pupils to “Think Big” as they develop high aspirations, broaden their horizons, and recognise the exciting opportunities available to them in the future.

Our Career-Related Learning programme forms part of our Personal Development offer, and is embedded within a broad and balanced curriculum to providing pupils with meaningful experiences that connect learning to life beyond the classroom. Through encounters with employers, local businesses, community organisations, and inspirational role models, children gain a deeper understanding of the wide range of careers and pathways available to them.

Alongside this local focus, we encourage children to think nationally and globally, helping them to understand how their skills, interests and ambitions can open doors to a wide variety of future opportunities.

Inspiring Ambition Through Enrichment

At Evercreech Church of England Primary School, we believe that children’s ambitions are shaped by the opportunities and experiences they encounter. A key part of our Personal Development curriculum is providing meaningful enrichment that broadens horizons, raises aspirations and helps children understand the many possibilities available to them in the future.

From the earliest stages of learning, children are introduced to a wide range of careers, roles and life experiences. In EYFS and Key Stage 1, our People in Our Community experiences help children learn about the individuals who contribute to society and the diverse roles that exist within our local area. These encounters encourage children to make connections between their learning and the world around them.

As children move through the school, they benefit from an extensive programme of enrichment activities, workshops and themed learning events. STEM workshops, Science Week activities and curriculum enhancement days provide opportunities for pupils to meet professionals from a variety of industries. Visitors have included scientists, teachers and industry specialists who share their career journeys, explain their work and inspire children to consider future pathways they may not have previously encountered.

We are proud of the strong links we have with our local community. Community leaders and charitable organisations regularly visit the school to share their experiences and inspire pupils to think about how they can make a positive difference in the world. Examples include representatives from School in a Bag, who have helped children understand the importance of service, compassion and global citizenship.

Our curriculum also benefits from the expertise of creative professionals. For example, Year 5 pupils have worked alongside graphic designers to enrich their computing curriculum, gaining valuable insights into creative industries and the skills required for success in design and technology-related careers.

Children are encouraged to explore the wealth of opportunities available within our local area. Through educational visits, visitors and enrichment experiences, they learn about key industries such as farming and agriculture, animal care, manufacturing and production. Events such as Farm to Food at the Royal Bath & West Showground provide first-hand experiences that help children understand where food comes from, the importance of sustainability and the variety of careers connected to the rural economy.

By exposing children to a diverse range of professions, experiences and role models, we help them to develop confidence, ambition and an understanding of the pathways that may be available to them in the future. These experiences support our commitment to ensuring that every child leaves Evercreech with the knowledge, skills and aspirations needed to flourish in the next stage of their education and beyond.
