Christmas and Celebrations
We are looking at traditional tales for the first part of this half term. This year we have chosen: The 3 Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man, and Little Red Riding Hood, which our children are all already familiar with.
There will be lots of roleplay and small world play to encourage the children to use their imaginations and engage with each other. We will also be introducing our core Nursery Rhymes to encourage the children to learn and repeat, and to start to understand rhythm and rhyme.
In maths we will be concentrating on numbers - counting and number recognition, and Squirrels will start to look at patterns and sequencing.
In literacy our traditional tales and nursery rhymes will help children to recognise stories and rhyme, how stories are structured , and encourage them to start to create their own stories.
We will also be celebrating bonfire night, Remembrance Day, and Children In Need.
The second half of this term is all about 'In The Sea'. - we will be looking at pirates and treasure, and creatures under the sea.
And then, of course, there's CHRISTMAS!! Be prepared for glitter and sparkle!
Hedgehogs will be starting to access resources independently and learning to work together in a team and Squirrels will be learning about friendships and starting to play and work together to achieve a goal.
In maths Hedgehogs will be looking at matching and sorting and Squirrels will be looking at number recognition and how we use numbers. We will be learning about patterns and sequences.
Literacy will be all about treasure maps, looking at how we can use words and pictures to find out information and pass information on.
We will be using our developing fine motor skills to create our own maps, paper boats, models of strange underwater creatures, and making Christmas decorations!
In science we will be looking at floating and sinking and discussing why we think some things will float and some will sink. We will be learning to use the internet to discover how such huge ships are able to float and how submarines are able to spend so much time under water.
We have very kindly been donated a Christmas tree so all the children will be helping to decorate it, making their own decorations and working together to make it look just the way they want it to.
