In Year 2, children developed their drawing skills through observational and life drawing, with a focus on shading, texture and line. They closely observed natural forms, creating detailed drawings of leaves and sunflowers, and explored texture further through leaf rubbings.
Children experimented with a range of media and techniques, including oil pastels, paint and tissue paper. They created Remembrance artwork inspired by poppies, which was displayed at Wells Cathedral, and produced dynamic fireworks pictures by applying oil pastel and scratching through the surface to reveal contrasting colours.
Pattern work was explored through the design of wrapping paper, where children created repeated motifs.
In Design and Technology, children developed basic sewing skills by learning how to use a running stitch to attach pieces of felt together. They applied this skill to create felt Christmas tree decorations, developing accuracy, control and independence. Children also took part in food technology by baking bread, learning about ingredients, following simple instructions and understanding basic food preparation processes.
