Day 1 – Space Exploration ๐
To kick off Science Week, we were visited by a special guest who delivered an engaging talk all about space. The children learned about astronomy, including stars, planets, and galaxies. The visitor shared their own beautifully painted planets and a handmade galaxy, which really captured the children’s imagination. It was an inspiring session that encouraged everyone to look up at the night sky with curiosity and wonder.
Day 2 – Investigations and Discoveries ๐ฌ
Day 2 of Science Week was all about exploring questions and carrying out investigations. Each class created their own enquiry, made predictions, tested their ideas, and carefully recorded their results.
Across the school, there was a wide range of exciting learning:
It was fantastic to see the children thinking scientifically, asking questions, and learning through hands-on experiences.
Day 3 – Exploring Wildlife and Food Chains ๐ฆ
On Day 3, the children had the exciting opportunity to explore a collection of taxidermy animals as part of their learning about food chains. Among the specimens were a tawny owl, a blue tit, bird nests, and many other fascinating examples of wildlife.
The children were captivated by the chance to observe these animals up close, sparking lots of curiosity and thoughtful discussion about habitats, diets, and how living things are connected within a food chain. It was a memorable, hands-on experience that brought their learning to life.
Day 4 – Learning with Sixth Form Scientists ๐งช
On Day 4, we were delighted to welcome sixth form students from Sexey’s School, who led a range of engaging and interactive investigations with the children.
The sessions covered a variety of exciting scientific topics, including space, evolution, light, density, aerodynamics, and particles. The students also carried out a dissection workshop with Year 6, providing a fascinating hands-on experience.
The activities were both inspiring and informative, and the children thoroughly enjoyed learning from the older students. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore science in a fun, practical way and to be inspired by future scientists.
Day 5 – Animal Encounter ๐
To end Science Week, we enjoyed a fantastic visit from Animals2U, where the children had the opportunity to meet a variety of fascinating creatures up close.
The visitor brought along African land snails, stick insects, a snake, and a polecat. The children were incredibly excited to see and even touch the animals, while learning lots of interesting facts about their habitats, diets, and behaviours.
It was a wonderful hands-on experience and a perfect way to finish an exciting and memorable Science Week.
Monday – Explorer Dome Experience ๐
The excitement continued on Monday with a visit from the Explorer Dome. The children took part in an incredible multi-sensory journey around Earth, using lights, projections, smells, and even dry ice to bring the experience to life.
They explored a range of different habitats across our planet, learning about the environments where animals and plants live. The immersive experience captured everyone’s imagination and made the learning both memorable and engaging.
Tuesday – Science Fair Showcase ๐
We finished our Science Week celebrations with a fantastic Science Fair, showcasing all of the wonderful activities the children had taken part in.
A video was played throughout the event, sharing the children’s views and highlighting their favourite moments from the week. Each class proudly displayed their investigations, allowing visitors to see the fantastic work and scientific thinking that had taken place. The taxidermy animals were also on display, giving everyone another chance to take a closer look.
Thank you to all the families who were able to attend and support this special event – it was lovely to share such an exciting and successful week together.
