In this fun and creative activity, Year 2 children made their own animal habitats using empty cereal boxes, tissue paper, and card animals. They learned about different environments around the world and the animals that live there while using their imaginations and fine motor skills.

Step-by-Step:

	Choose a Habitat:
Each child picked one of four habitats to make:
	🐧 Arctic
	🦁 Savanna
	🐒 Rainforest
	🐠 Ocean

	Prepare the Box:
An empty cereal box was turned on its side to make a mini stage (like a little theatre).
One side was cut out to create an open front.

	Make the Background:
Children covered the inside of the box with tissue paper to match the habitat – for example:

Blue and white for the Arctic

Yellow and brown for the Savanna

Lots of green for the Rainforest

 Blue for the Ocean

	Add Landscape Features:
They used more tissue paper, card, and scrap materials to create trees, icebergs, coral, vines, grass, or snow.

	Create and Add Animals:
The children drew, coloured, and cut out animals from card – like lions, monkeys, fish, or polar bears – and glued them into their habitats.
Some animals were even hung with string to “fly” or “swim!”

This project helped the children explore geography and science in a hands-on way, while also building creativity, cutting skills, and teamwork. Each habitat turned out unique and full of imagination!
