Traditional Tales
We are looking at traditional tales for the first part of this half term. This year we have chosen: The 3 Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man, and Little Red Riding Hood, which our children are all already familiar with.
There will be lots of roleplay and small world play to encourage the children to use their imaginations and engage with each other. We will also be introducing our core Nursery Rhymes to encourage the children to learn and repeat, and to start to understand rhythm and rhyme.
In maths we will be concentrating on numbers - counting and number recognition, and Squirrels will start to look at patterns and sequencing.
In literacy our traditional tales and nursery rhymes will help children to recognise stories and rhyme, how stories are structured , and encourage them to start to create their own stories.
We have use of the school hall one morning a week where, as well as music, dance and PE, we will be acting out the tales that we have learnt. This will help to improve children's core muscles and large motor skills, as well as their understanding of rhythm and sound.
We will also be celebrating bonfire night, Remembrance Day, and Children In Need.
