Spring Term 2 2026

This term our themes are 'Spring' and 'All About Us'.

We will be looking at how our environment changes throughout the year, life cycles, and planting and growing.

In the second half of term we will be concentrating on how we grow, our five senses, our families and our traditions.

All the children will be learning about our emotions and how to express them. We will look at the lives of children around the world, at different cultures and beliefs, and how they celebrate special times.

In maths Hedgehogs will be looking at weights and sizes, while Squirrels will be looking at representing numbers, subitising, and understanding shapes and how they can be used in building.

Hedgehogs will be starting to choose their favourite books and responding to pictures and words. They will be starting to use malleable materials with increasing control to build and create. Squirrels will also be starting to use their developing skills in creating and building with a purpose. They will be encouraged to be more independent in self care, ready to start school.

Hedgehogs will be looking at body percussion, understanding rhythm, and both they and Squirrels will be using singing and dance to experiment with rhythm and rhyme, with Squirrels starting to recognise rhyming words and phrases.

We will be celebrating Science week with experiments involving colour and liquids, celebrating Mother's Day, World Book Day, Red Nose Day and Easter. We are continuing with yoga, including visits from Adele once a fortnight for sessions of Mindfulness Yoga, and learning new songs and dances.

Squirrels will be starting to bring home book bags, and our Busy Bags are on a wide range of subjects to link with our themes and are available to all.

Let's hope the rain stops for a while and we get some sunshine!
