    Autumn Term 1

    Our themes this term are:

All About Me – Getting to Know Each Other

Magical Me – Why I am Special

    Autumn:-

    Changing Seasons

    Trees and Leaves

    Woodland Animals

    Harvest

    Mini Beasts

    Witches and Wizards

This term we have lots of new children starting so we will be doing activities to help us all get to know each other, build self confidence, and start to make friends.

The second part of this half term we will be looking at Autumn and all the changes it brings, the lovely colours, the frosty mornings (and the rain!), and what happens to the plants and the trees.

We will be mixing colours, sorting and counting, and looking at shapes in our environment. Hedgehogs will start to learn counting songs, starting to count to 5 and them 10 independently and start to understand what numbers mean.                                                                                                                      Squirrels will start to recognise 2D shapes and represent some of these shapes in mark making activities. We will be going on walks around the village, looking at numbers in the environment.

We will make collages and paintings, create with playdough, and build dens for the hedgehogs to hibernate in. On our walks into the village we will find leaves to print and paint, and we will go out into the school playground to take some bark rubbing from the trees.

In literacy Hedgehogs will be learning how to use finger movements and large motor skills to mark make and create art and craft. Squirrels will be encouraged to use mark making in all their activities, especially in  the role play area.                                                                                                                                They will start to show an interest in stories and repeat familiar refrains.

With winter on the way we will be encouraging children to become more independent in their dressing - putting on their own coats, hats and mittens, and finding their wellies.

We will be using yoga and PE games to help improve core strength, posture, and large motor skills .

With the run up to half term we will be looking at minibeasts and their habitats. Using puzzles and matching games we will be doing lots of counting, and number and shape recognition.

The final week of term our theme is witches and wizards - inventing spells and potions, carving pumpkins, and dressing up!
